I think one of the biggest worries I had about having children 8 years apart is that they wouldn't really be friends. They would grow up in the same house but not really together. I will have a freshman in High school and a 1st grader. at the same time. It just seemed weird to me.
I have to say I worried for nothing because their relationship is so unique and fun and they love each other so much. Izzy thinks that Emma hung the moon and gets upset when she leaves the room and wants to play with her all the time! Emma loves to help her learn new things, and she loves to get the both of them in trouble! She has a little partner in crime now! But the best thing about their relationship is how in the quiet moments they can just sit and be. This picture was taken a few days ago. Emma was watching TV and Izzy just grabbed her sippy cup and sat in Emma's lap. They sat like this for a good while and it just made me so happy to know that they will always have each other.
My sister is 8.5 yeas younger than me. When I left for college, I remember thinking that she (9 years old) would grow up as a stranger to me. I made it a point to make it home for her stuff. Homecomings and concerts, or just to hang. I would bring her to Springfield on my breaks (I never lived at home again after moving to college), and later to Kansas City. She is one of my best friends today, and we are very close. I am thankful for the age difference, but she's so spectacular, I think we would have been superclose no matter what our ages. :)
